

Across the continent, traditional diets are naturally packed with vibrant, nutrient-dense ingredients that have sustained communities for generations.

Across cultures, many cooking methods developed over generations unknowingly aligned with biochemical principles. Pairing certain spices, using oils in cooking, fermenting foods, or combining ingredients often improved nutrition long before modern science explained why.

Gardening offers people a level of independence and self-reliance. Growing vegetables, herbs, fruits, or medicinal plants at home reduces complete dependence on commercial supply chains.

There is a growing assumption among small food businesses that because a juice is freshly squeezed, contains no preservatives and is made from “just fruits,” it automatically falls outside NAFDAC regulation. But there is a very important distinction that every Nigerian juice entrepreneur needs to understand before putting their products into bottles and sending them to customers.

Before colonial trade, there was no tomato stew, no cassava fufu, no maize pap. The question isn’t whether these foods are African, it’s how Africa made them its own.

Nigeria is targeting more than double the livestock sector’s contribution to the economy, from an estimated $32 billion to over $64 billion annually. The plan focuses on ranching, dairy production, animal health, feed, genetics and processing, with the government also looking to attract greater private sector investment and reduce dependence on imported milk.
